Strategic Goals are set by Council, but some of my priorities will be...
Governance: Ensure Council communicates often and is accountable to residents; Increase public participation through committees and consultations; standardize hiring practices to ensure best value for taxpayer money; Update and modernize policies so that taxpayers and city resources are properly protected.
Infrastructure: Update and implement the Long Term Infrastructure Renewal plan which must ensure that our roads, water lines and sewers are functioning well to serve residents now and into the future. Implement a robust Asset Management plan to ensure that all city assets are accurately valued and their life cycle costs are properly considered.
Economy: Collaborate on economic development ideas for Rossland & our local region; support for tourism initiatives; implement broadband connectivity for Rossland. These ideas support important business investment and employment, including self-employment opportunities. Support our local businesses from our largest employer, Red Mountain, to our newest start up.
Environment: Support conservation initiatives and development that keep Rossland economically lively and attractive to both visitors and prospective new residents.
Youth: Support youth programs and initiatives such as the Youth Action Network and the skate park.
Community: Renew focus on the Strategic Sustainability Plan which will ensure the city and community remain vibrant and viable over the long-term, as well adopt financially sound environmentally sustainable practices.
Finance: Improve the financial health of Rossland by a establishing a strong process of setting priorities, budgeting, and monitoring, aided by a committee comprised of staff, Council members and selected residents with appropriate expertise. Apply philosophy of "Continuous Improvement" to all aspects of the city to find efficiencies and costs savings.
Energy: Develop a Community Energy Plan for Rossland to provide opportunities for new sources of revenue for the City and reduced energy use to save money. Emphasis on green innovative technologies. Continue to work collaboratively with local utilities such as Fortis on energy conservation projects such as the highly successful Energy Diet.
Recreation: Continue to support the development of urban trails and a skateboard park. Work with regional partners to find an equitable solution to recreation issues.
Regional Partnerships: Support regional cooperation which can reduce costs to Rossland and/or increase value of regional services to Rossland residents. Build relationships with other local governments.
